☞ READ: Frederick Douglass Blvd Booming...FYI

South Harlem's FDB/8th Avenue has had a notable year with new boutique business openings and condo sales, so the New York Daily News went over the details once more this past weekend: LINK. The 15 block check list includes the new plaza completed at Frederick Douglass Circle, downtown style speakeasy 67 Orange Street (photo), the Aloft Hotel opening, Upper West Side's Levain Bakery arriving soon, boutique bicycle shop MODSquad, Bier International's German-stye beer garden, the celebrity chef-founded 5 & Diamond restaurant, and a major outdoor tavern opening by the springtime to name a few. 1. Interesting article, but seemed conflicting. It is talking about higher end stuff opening up, but then making it sound like a problem that apartments prices seemed higher then they wanted. They don't even mention pricing of 2280, but state they are about luxury, also about not being able to sell. Then they mention Livmor and the starting price of a 1br, well they should talk past tense as they have sold out of 1brs and 2brs, left with a few 3brs and the penthouse apartments.

I tried 5 and diamond for the first time Saturday night. It was not to bad. But the service as I have seen written up leaves much to be desired. I am all for hiring local staff, but seriously you need to train them to be able to work at the level that one would expect in a restaurant charging those prices.

  2. Kudos for FDB! I remember back-in-the-day when one was afraid to walk anywhere on FDB even in the daytime. We called it a buck of blood back in the 70's. Now look at it! I can't even afford to live or shop there! LOL!!!
