☞ SHOP: What's Up with 341 Lenox Avenue?
There's been some major construction at 341 Lenox Avenue and now it appears a new storefront is starting to come together just north of West 127th Street. After checking DOB records, we told a curious reader that it was only a renovation of the previous fast food chicken shack that was by the Maysles Cinema but after closer examination, there apparently is a new proprietor in place. Permits show that the business is now under the name of Skillet Pie so we did a quick search of that title in New York and came up with a facebook site for the eatery: LINK. Under the information section, 341 Lenox is listed as the address for Skillet Pie Co. & Bistro so it looks like a restaurant upgrade is happening to this storefront in Central Harlem.

Great name - think they make pies in skillets?? yeahhh
ReplyDeleteCute way of describing "Pizza" and one of the 'culinary chefs' is connected with a Pizza establishment in CT. However the name does suggest a finer quality and signature offering than a 'Ray's' for example If you're keeping score, Harlem upscale Pizza? Bad Horse, Settepani's place, and now Skillet Pie. Should be neat when they all are open.
ReplyDeleteWell, Dirk Zephir (one of the culinary team according to their facebook site) was the executive chef at Soul Cafe, a place down in Hell's Kitchen. Not sure if it is still there anymore.
ReplyDeleteI walk by that storefront every day and I've been wondering what is happening - thanks Ulysses.
ReplyDeleteI agree with HarlemHeights - even if it is just pizza, an upscale pizza place would be nice. A welcome alternative to the Papa John's opening up a few blocks north.
Great research, Lenox’s restaurant row gets another addition, and next to Maysles indie movie house, good synergy.
ReplyDeleteHopefully this is decent. It shouldn't take much to get a halfway decent pizzeria in Central Harlem. We don't need "upscale" pizza when there is currently no decent "regular" pizza in Central Harlem. Seriously, if I want to just grab a slice there is no longer anywhere to go, ever since Slice of Harlem closed.
ReplyDeleteAnd Slice of Harlem wasn't even very good but at least it existed. We now have no pizzeria anywhere in the area. And the couple places further west (Presidential and Pizzeria 123) are so terrible. Presidential is almost laughably bad.. almost... if you weren't actually trying to eat.
Just walked by the place, seems like they are painting it all white?
ReplyDeleteWhen I’m downtown by Bleecker and Carmine I almost always grab a slice even if I don’t want one simply because I know when I get home there is no decent pizza to be had.
ReplyDeleteJO: Perhaps so -- it's worth noting that their Facebook profile image is of a cast iron skillet (though no pizza is currently contained therein.
ReplyDeleteIf that means this will be something akin to deep dish / Chicago style it could be good in terms of variety, but not really my cup of tea at the end of the day.
Not sure if it is the same location...but saw a Papa John sign go up on that block.
ReplyDeleteNote that we have received an update on this store and will have a post up on Monday. Apparently the business name of Skillet Pie on the work permits did not change but the actual business for this location did.
