☞ INTRODUCING: Disney Playground at 103rd

We walked by 103rd Street and Park Avenue yesterday to check out some of the prep work for what appears to be Harlem's largest community garden renovation. A recent press release confirms that a prefabricated playground sponsored by Disney is arriving next week and along with a garden in the near future:

NYRP, KaBOOM! (the national non-profit dedicated to building playgrounds) and Disney are partnering to build a new playground and children’s garden at NYRP’s 103rd Street Community Garden in East Harlem on Thursday, May 19th. The new Disney Junior inspired playground and garden will be fully assembled from scratch in less than eight hours with the help of more than 200 community members and students, NYRP staff, Disney VoluntEARS and KaBOOM! organizers.

The playground’s design is based on drawings created by children who participated in a Design Day event in March when local children and community leaders met with organizers from Disney and KaBOOM! to design their dream playground.

As part of NYRP’s efforts to re-imagine the 103rd Street Community Garden for its East Harlem neighbors, the build of the playground is the first phase of a larger renovation of the 103rd Street Community Garden that will be unveiled early this fall. Sketches of the new park can be found on our facebook site: LINK
