☞ SHOP: The Pop-Up Co-Op Kickstarter
We like to feature Kickstarter projects that help the greater community and Greg Allen's quest to bring a food Co-Op to West Harlem caught our eye. The idea started when the West Harlem resident of 13 years saw that many young local kids did not have work opportunities while serving as a youth caseworker. The idea of the Pop-Up Co-op came up which would open a shop at 128th Street and St. Nicholas that would sell $1 organic take-out coffee and eventually produce. Minority youth with no prior work experierence will be paid $28.5K a year as a starting salary and will get valuable job skills along with the option of receiving ownership shares for the co-op. Overall $22,835 is needed to get this project funded in the next 11 days and $14,198 has already been donated by 239 backers. The goal has not been reached yet so this is not a done deal! Make donations at the Kickstarter site within various ranges: LINK. Also note $50 donations will get backers into the opening party and free coffee for one month.

ReplyDeleteI love this! This is an excellent idea! God Bless them all and best wishes
ReplyDeleteGood for them! If all Ulysses’ readers donated a buck I bet it would make a difference. I'm gonna do it right now.
ReplyDeleteWOW. Fresh produce in this neighborhood. Can't come too soon. I'll donate to that.
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful idea and I will be there buying coffee every day.
ReplyDeleteAlso, it looks like they're close to reaching their funding goal. Looks like they could use a FB link to help bump them over the top...
