☞ EAT: Pink Teacup Now Auberge Laurent
The corner eatery arriving at 200 Lenox Avenue apparently has now gone through a third name change. Lawrence Page announced earlier this year that the Pink Heifer would arrive at the corner of 120th street but the moniker offended some folks. It was then reported that the owner of downtown's Pink Teacup restaurant would then just open a second branch with the same name in the Mount Morris Park Historic District section of Lenox Avenue but the signs posted last Friday put an end to that speculation. The new name that just went up at the soon to arrive restaurant now appears to be Auberge Laurent and this time the decision appears to be final. We have not heard news about the opening date but it seems like things are progressing quickly at this point in time.

The menu stating that it is a "Wine Lounge" is an indicator that the zoning laws don't allow for a restaurant liquor license. Settipani next door has the same situation where they only serve beer and wine. Many might think it's not a big deal but that could be an issue for the longevity of a restaurant.
ReplyDeleteI like the name a lot! As for the wine thing, it seems like Settepani is doing ok...can't wait for this to open as well!
ReplyDeleteYeah, it seemed like a bit of lost cause there for a while. Guess the name and change in vision explains it. So the food will have a French slant?
ReplyDeleteDAMN!
ReplyDeleteOnly wine and beer allowed in close vicinity to funeral homes? Harlem needs change we can believe in.
ReplyDeleteChurches and a school. The dead don’t give a damn.
ReplyDeleteWasnt it a failed wine/champaigne bar before?
ReplyDeletethere is a church or school on every block in harlem (and most of city).. this is a state SLA law......should be changed.
Agreed, Mike. It's holding Harlem back. Now if there were as many schools as churches, I'd feel better. Bud sadly, that's not the case.
ReplyDeleteThe old place was a caviar bar or a caviar and champagne bar. At any rate a wine bar/small plates place seems more accessible. Also, rumor has it the caviar bar was a cove for, um, other activities.
ReplyDeleteI hope they serve brunch too as this seems to be important for other places in the area .
I love the sign and prefer it going this direction over the "soul food" direction - there are a lot of great options, old and new, for soul food so I for one am glad it's different.
