☞ EAT: The Lenox Social Opens On Lenox

Several messages came in from Bespoke readers this Saturday on the surprise opening of the Lenox Social at 126th Street and Lenox Avenue. When walking by the new space last weekend, the final finishes of the interior seemed to be under construction but the new restaurant in Central Harlem has now had its soft opening.  As far as overall look is concerned, this new watering hole is spot on with subway tiles, vintage wood, globe lights and tin ceiling all in place.  An overall old Harlem aesthetic welcomes diners as they enter and the establishment fits in well with the new set of classic restaurants appearing on Lenox Avenue.

There's mostly an extensive drink list available currently (all moderately priced) but only a small array of appetizers on the menu at this point in time.  We dropped by for a quick drink and tried the fried oyster small plate and the cheeseburger egg rolls to get a taste of what the main menu would be like when it all comes together.  The overall verdict was that the fried oysters rated high on the flavor combinations offered on the plate but was a bit pricy at $10 for 2 rather small pieces.  Those egg rolls were more substantial in size but tasted more like odd Asian cheese quesadillas with not a lot of burger in it and somewhat too chewy dough on the inside.

Our suggestion would be offering a more hearty (i.e. substantial) pub grub menu at moderate prices alongside with upper priced entrees that will apparently be made with higher end ingredients.  This is definitely great place to take a date or to have a quick drink with friends so we have high expectations when the Lenox Social fully rolls out.

  3. Forgot to mention that the service was great which is especially something difficult for new restaurants to get organized on.

  4. I have great expectations for Lenox Social and am very impressed with the old world atmospheric interior design. It has a well planned layout with table areas equally suited to drinking or dining, allowing either business to excel at different times. I am awaiting the street signage that I assume will occupy the upper lit perimeter sign board. I would also like to see a traditional hanging shingle as in a British pub sign. Ulysses, agreed with your menu suggestions, it could go both ways with time-honored pub grub along with creative gastro pub offerings. Looks like a great addition to upper Lenox.

  5. I've been waiting a long time for a place like Lenox Social to open in Harlem. It's gorgeous, well laid out, as Westsider says above. The service was excellent!! It's a pub for grown ups which is why I must say I couldn't disagree more with the above comments regarding the menu. If you are looking for well made, traditional pub grub, we have Harlem Tavern. If you are looking for quantity over quality, we have many options in Harlem. After sampling some of the current offerings and speaking at length with the owner, the food will be different than what is currently available in Harlem. Hurray!! More choices and more creativity!!! Harlem is quickly offering up something for everyone. How great is that? And now we have a pub for grown-ups, with a menu to match. As for price, we found Lenox Social to be the same or cheaper than other Harlem spots.
