☞ DRINK: Lenox Social Changes to Corner Social
The new Lenox Social quickly changed its name after the legendary Lenox Lounge informed them that the two drinking establishments sounded too similar. Lenox Social at 126th and Lenox Avenue quickly removed the famous avenue's name its facade and a Bespoke reader sent in the lower photo of the new name this afternoon. It now appears that the bar formerly known as the Lenox Social will now be called the Corner Social. It's a little generic but the owners are probably a little reticent of sounding like anything else in the neighborhood. Harlem Social could have been in conflict with Harlem Tavern and so on...

I really wish them well, they have been very diplomatic by changing their name! I will return again and again... and just be social!
ReplyDeleteBravo to the now ‘Corner Social’, they seem to know their business and they get the New Harlem, I would call them a game changer for what is possible on upper Lenox. They have transformed that block and will make even more of a statement when the inevitable sidewalk tables and seating arrive.
ReplyDeleteRegardless the name it's a great pub. I've lived in Harlem for years and this is the first place I can actually hang out, have a beer, read my book. It's a proper grown up pub like the ones I frequented in London and Boston.
ReplyDeleteThis is ridiculous! I see if it was something like Lenox Social Lounge. So nothing else can be named Lenox or Harlem, even if they're on Lenox or in Harlem?
ReplyDeleteLenox Lounge behavior is damaging its own reputation. Bullying like this only devalues the Lenox Lounge brand. It puts a sour taste in my mouth, and I would seriously reconsider supporting an establishment that threatens the prosperity of any hardworking neighbor.
ReplyDeleteI wish they hadn't changed it. Lenox Social had a certain ring to it. . .
ReplyDeleteDoesn't matter. I'm still gonna call it the Lenox Social. Lenox Lounge can't sue me...
ReplyDeleteSo Lenox Lounge won.
ReplyDeleteBut what did it get out of it?
They still don't get half the traffic that Corner Social gets.
And never will unless major changes are made.
Talk about your empty gestures.
I thought Lenox Lounge was experiencing difficulty with their lease renewal, and would possibly shut down anyways?
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry but Corner Social is super corny, they may as well have named the place "untitled" for that. But seriously, they could have just called it Uptown Social.
ReplyDeleteWow Harlem Princess you are a harsh critic. They have done what they thought would bring them zero headaches. At the end of the day I will frequent the place, was there on Tuesday it was packed, the atmosphere was excellent and the fare was worth it.
ReplyDeleteThis entire situation sure does reflect negatively on Lenox Lounge. They come across as petty and envious. Great way to welcome some a fellow establishment to the neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if Lenox Coffee and Lenox Wines should change their names also. Of course, they can't take "Corner Coffee" or "Corner Wines". Corner is taken. Maybe "Local Coffee" and "Neighborhood Wines"?
ReplyDeleteI like the name Corner Social, it fits as this is a neighborhood bar frequented by locals, and is definitely defining this corner and central Harlem.
ReplyDeleteIt is a shame that a historic place like Lenox Lounge is in the hands of current management. The Lenox Lounge with all it’s history and great location should be riding the wave of the booming upper Lenox restaurant row. Unfortunately with this recent pettiness, awful public relations and it’s financial troubles it is getting left behind. Lenox Lounge deserves better stewards who can make the historic jazz spot part of the new Harlem.
ReplyDeleteThis is Advertising 101, and it happens every day. Was this the right PR move for the Lennox Lounge, probably not. Was this the right business move for Lennox Lounge, absolutely so. If you have a trademarked name and another business infrindges on your name, you have the right to take action. With regards to the new name (Corner Social), I'm certain they choose the generic route to avoid this issue in the future. As long as both businesses remain in the news or topics of discussion they both remain relevant. Hopefully this will be a win-win for all parties involved.
ReplyDelete"Corner" will be a hit regardless of the name; it's not just about the name it's about the experience and the energy!
ReplyDeletegreat name! someone will soon steal it.
ReplyDeleteCorner Social formerly known as Lenox Social I heart you!
