☞ EAT: French Restaurant for 341 St. Nicholas

An inside tip has confirmed that a French restaurant has secured the lease at 341 St. Nicholas Avenue over at West  Central Harlem's  border by the park.  The building's management sent us an archival photo of the location on the corner of West 127th Street a couple of years back and wanted to ask readers what they thought best suited the neighborhood. Apparently a new restaurant is the answer and this one will be called La Maison Harlem.  Commercial development on the west side has been slower in than South Harlem in the past few years so this is a good sign of things to come. The close proximity to the express train should also help in this case.

  2. I live right by there on 129th. Have wanted a decent restaurant in the area for sometime, so very much looking forward to this. More details please!

  3. We don't need a French Restaurant in the neighborhood that will cater to mostly the gentrifiers/hipsters. What the neighborhood needs is a reputable 24 hour supermarket/convenience store that sells healthy food and fresh produce.

  4. There's a Met on Amsterdam, not that far away. Whole Foods is a single stop away on the express A or D train. Fairway, admittedly a bit of a hike, is still less than a mile.

Sorry, but yes, the neighborhood does need more restaurants.

  5. Harlem needs a couple of decent diners. Can I just get a waffle, rueben sandwich, or greek salad, please?

  6. Why not have both? The restaurant is fantasic. And if we can get a grocery store to move in to the first floor at the Balton, we'll be all set! Yahoo!!!

  7. ... And let's not forget there's the Best Yet on 119th, which is pretty darn good and has fairly broad appeal (i.e., not just to hipsters). Yes, another market would be useful, but a restaurant is also a great idea. It shall be patronized!

  8. Gattopardo the Whole Foods on West 97th St. is actually 2 stops away and quite a walk from the West 96th St station of the "C" train, not the A nor the D. Finally, can we please put a moratorium on using the name Harlem in every new enterprises title. Its getting a trifle bit tiring now and a bit common and I for one am expasperated by the un-originality of it all.

  11. Actually, Whole Foods is on 59th, and that's ONE stop away on the A train. Fast, and very easy to get to (it's above the station).

    Check it out sometime.
