☞ EAT: Famous Fish Market
One of the best kept secrets in Manhattan is Famous Fish Market over on 684 St. Nicholas Avenue in West Harlem. The fish shack located just below 145th Street in Hamilton Heights has some of the best fried whiting and shrimp in town for an affordable price. We ventured out and got the fish only option recently which is enough for two people for well under $10.
This is strictly a takeout joint without any seating but there are a couple of parks nearby for those who want to have an outdoor meal. All the seafood is presented on the counter when ordered and customers have a split second to add on toppings such as hot sauce before two thick slices of bread are added on top. Then everything is wrapped up and ready to go. More details can be found on Yelp: LINK

Yes, the fish is quite good...this place is hardly a secret for longtime Harlemites, as evidenced by a wait time that often exceeds 1/2hr for takeout.
ReplyDeleteMartha Stewart did part of her Harlem broadcast here.
ReplyDeleteI exit the A train right there and I've always been so tempted to go in. The long lines are discouraging when I'm on my way home from work and exhausted, but it must be good if people are lining up like that.
ReplyDeleteThe lines are discouraging, no doubt. But the fish is well worth it.
ReplyDeleteIt's the batter. Very light and so tasty.
