☞ EAT: Wood Oven Pizza Arriving on 116th


A Bespoke reader just sent in the above photos of the new wood oven pizza joint that apparently will be opening soon on West 116th Street between Lenox and ACP/7th Avenue.  Forno appears to be the next restaurant venture of the owner of the Ethiopian eatery called Zoma on lower FDB and should be a standout based on the look of the interior space.  Anything with classic subway tiles and mosaic tiles automatically get our attention on the aesthetic level so this one is one to look out for.  Does anyone else have any other details on this new establishment?

  1. Walked by two or three days ago and saw the activity. Not too sure about Ethiopian pizza but hey. If the price is right I'm game.

  2. I'm a big fan of Zoma. So I'm sure this place will bring the goods food-wise. I'm just not too sure about the awning though.Seems to be a bit lacking in the creativity dept. That aside, I'll still stop by for a couple slices though.

  5. 'Bout time. Now if more of those ovens turned up in and around Harlem, we'd be in great shape. Pizza is a no-brainer and can be done very well with not a big cost.

  6. I'm glad they're opening. Bad Horse is OK pizza, but their prices are high, and the service is mediocre. Hopefully this place can come in at a price point that is a bit lower.

  7. Bad horse has survived not because of their product or service, but because of a lack of moderately priced alternatives in the nabe. I'm a big fan of Zoma, so I've high hopes for their next endeavor.

    1. I disagree.

      I think their pizza is great. Just about everyone I've introduced this place to has agreed. It may be pricier than the by-the-slice place down the block but it's worth it to me.

  8. You got it right. Harlem, with the exception of Patsy's in East Harlem, has mostly fast food, Dominoes, Little Caesars, Papa John's, etc, pizza that, in reality, is not pizza. A few good pizzerias here would thrive magnificently unless priced outrageously.

  9. Totally agree with GM Suggs. Bad Horse is several steps above the by-the-slice stuff in the area. Fresh, tasty, and unique.
