☞ INTRODUCING: Mama K's on Sugar Hill

Bespoke readers have been sending in tips on Mama K's Soups and Salads which just opened up on Sugar Hill at 148th and St. Nicholas Avenue.  It's nothing to look at out front but the word on the street is that they have some great varieties such as butternut squash and Jamaican black bean soup which all come with free bread.  The shop is owned by Mama K who is Japanese and business partner Robert who hails from Harlem. Check out this new business at 761 St. Nicholas Avenue for a healthier dining option uptown. Hours are from 11:00AM to 8:00PM.

  1. Jeez---talk about lack of curb appeal...the awning and the frontage say nothing about new and fresh or inviting. I certainly would have walked right past it. However, I am glad they are taking a chance in opening...will check it out.

  2. Wow, I open a store, I get a sign made. Even if it's expensive. That doesn't look inviting at all. Looks like a giant ransom note.

    1. Well , I can report that it has a lot potential. Super friendly service. Soup and salad were fresh and reasonably priced.

The interior was clean and cool, though small. A good addition to the area ! Hope some of the other smaller businesses can pop up in these empty spaces on the Hill.

  5. Just went there yesterday and had a delicious chicken and corn chowder soup and the best homemade chocolate chip cookie I've had in ages. Really worth it.

  6. Sounds like they have the most important things in place, product and service, from there they can build a loyal customer base.

  7. The great soups and friendly atmosphere makes this spot a "winner" in my book. "They put 17 different vegetables in their veggie soups; who cares about curb appeal (lol). Don't play yourself and miss out on the experiences that the NEW HARLEM is bringing. * I Love Harlem *
