  1. I normally love the marathon, and am generally a Bloomberg fan, but I wonder if running the marathon on Sunday is really the best use of police and fire resources?

  2. Bloomberg has handled the Sandy disaster very well, but proceeding with the marathon is a huge mistake. Roads are already closed around the area because of the storm and our police and city workers need to concentrate on getting the city back to normal not diverting resources to crowd control and policing during the marathon. I understand we want to put on a proud resilient face after the storm, but this makes no sense.

  3. Don't forget that a lot of people, particularly hourly workers, have been missing a lot of work. The marathon brings a lot of tourist money into the city - hotels, restaurants, families or runners who stick around to do some sightseeing. Part of recovery is getting businesses and workers back on their feet. To me this is less about putting on a good face than generating income for New Yorkers.

  4. I get what he is trying to do, show the resilience etc of NY; but I think until people have power back we should not go ahead with the race. With that said $400 million is a huge hit to take.

  5. I understand the money lost, but I'm worried what might happen if the logistics are still not normal; no power downtown, trains not running downtown, tunnels still closed, and then diverting so many resources to the marathon instead of to the recovery.

  6. Finally common sense prevails. The marathon is cancelled.
