SHOP: PAPA JOHN'S SHUTTERS ON LENOX
There are a lot of successful fast-food chains on 125th Street but it appears that upper Lenox Avenue prefers some of the better eateries debuting in Central Harlem. Papa John's Pizza opened a few years back during a time when the likes of Red Rooster and Corner Social started appearing on the strip. With the major foot traffic on the avenue, one would imagine that cheap takeout spot would proliferate over the more expensive options but this does not seem to be the case. In our opinion, 125th Street is the more commercial corridor of Harlem and successful businesses opening on Lenox should be really more of the destination type versus a basic walk-in model.

I used to go to the Papa John's on the corner of FDB/111th (ground floor of Towers on the Park). But the owner of Papa John's (the one that's in their ads) fought against Obama's re-election in 2012 and seemed to me to be a bit racist, sexist and homophobic. Perhaps others stopped buying from them at that time.....I hope so.
ReplyDeleteGood riddance to the demise of any national chain pizzeria in NYC where no such thing should exist.
ReplyDeleteIf I recall correctly, they sold whole pizzas but not slices. That might make sense in other cities but in New York it eliminates much of the target market.
ReplyDeleteThey closed back in February. One day they were open the next week they were closed. No warning. And they did sell slices, for some odd reason. Never knew Papa John's did that.
