SEE: THE BAILEY MANSION IN THE KNICK
The Knick is now the only television program we are enthralled by these days and Harlem's Bailey Mansion just made its first appearance this past weekend. The white castle on 150th Street up on Sugar Hill belonged to the business partner of the Barnum & Bailey Circus back in the 20th Century and is a befitting home for the period drama's stately abode of its wealthiest family. Most of the view is correct as one looks north on St. Nicholas Avenue but a mansard roof has been added to a building in the far distance. More tenement type apartments would arrive on Sugar Hill in the coming decade so this is a nice glimpse of a time in the early century when Harlem was just transitioning from small country estates into a bustling city enclave.
