REVIVE: FAILED RESTORATION FOR THE WATHCTOWER
The city's only remaining Civil War era fire watchtower which is on top of Marcus Garvey Park will be dismantled in the coming months and many fear that the city will never restore it. An amount of $4 million had been set aside for the restoration process but preservationist are now surprised that about $2.5 million of that amount is really being used to take the crumbling tower apart and putting it into storage in Queens. Other critics mention that the city's Landmarks Preservation Commission has been notorious for not using funds in Harlem to help restore some of the city's great landmarks that are located uptown and that this convenient storage of the watchtower might just mean longer delays or even a total neglect of project mission altogether.
