Now that the warmer weather is starting to come about, some of secret backyard dining spaces in Harlem will start filling up with al fresco diners. The new Lolo's Seafood Shack on 116th just west of FDB probably has the most colorful ones to arrive so far and we were able to swing by to grab a quick bite last week. This shabby chic eatery just around the corner from Harlem Tavern intentionally looks like a charming dive with all sorts of bric-a-brac alluding to tropical climates decorating the space within. Out in the back, a pastel painted pier greets guests who want to have a little fresh air with their meal. Our recent sample of the menu included the meaty baked shark steak which was just as good as expected but the real surprise was the home made flat bread. This delicious crunchy, crispy crust was so good that one forgets that this is not a fried fish platter at all and provides a newness to something otherwise very familiar. Lolo's is open at 4:00PM on weekdays and a little bit earlier on weekend.
