QUESTION: WHAT'S UP WITH EAST HARLEM CAFE?
Another big game changer several years ago was the East Harlem Cafe on the corner of 104th Street and Lexington Avenue but now it appears that the storefront has been shuttered. We walked by today in the afternoon and everything was locked up without any explanation out front. A search on Yelp indicates that the location is still open but the reality does not match the status. One of the local shops mentioned to us that the cafe has been closed for a week now. Does anyone have any details about this situation?

It closed, sadly, about a week and a half ago. The closing of the 103 subway really affected the business and Michelle mentioned things had been rough for a while. Check out their Facebook page and Michelle Cruz's page and east Harlem preservation for more info.
