Mama Sushi started construction on Broadway by 146th Street at the end of 2015 and now has opened in the past couple of weeks. We noticed that the Japanese latin fusion spot that has another branch in Washington Heights even had lunch service available so took a look at the menu.
Bento boxes, tempuras, teriyaki, Kobe hotdogs and even hanger steaks are part of the menu that is probably slightly more cooked than most authentic sushi joints out there. The nigiri that is listed only has three options for raw fish so the original Japanese concept is a little bit secondary. With that said, it appears to be popular with the non-purist in Hamilton Heights and Mama Sushi does have a larger layout than many of the smaller Asian options in the area.
