WALK: SAKURA PARK 2017
We always drop by Sakura Park up by Grant's Tomb at 122nd Street and Riverside Drive this time of year to check out the arbor of cherry trees donated as a gift from Japan over a century ago. This charming green space on the top of the hill was originally Claremont Park but was named Sakura after the blossoming trees arrived. Some of the original plants have since disappeared because of past storms but new tress have been planted in recent years on the west side. Buds are now open about 70 percent so this weekend would be a great time to check out the historic site if weather permits. On a side note, sunbathing season has apparently unofficially begun so those who are so inclined should take note. More on the history of Sakura Park can be found in our past post: LINK
