REMEMBER: A GAS STATION AT 116TH AND 8TH AVENUE

Harlem Bespoke:  HB has been going over the history of disappearing gas stations in the neighborhood and we have been documenting some of the alternate uses for these dinosaur fuel sites for over a decade now.  Electric vehicles will be the future in the coming years so alternate plans for these sites will come in handy.  The top photo was taken by us back in 2010 and show an abandoned site at the corner of Frederick Douglass and 116th Street.
As can be seen by the lower photos, Halrem Tavern took over the space after some construction cleaned things up and opened in the summer of 2011 with great expectations.  This was the first outdoor beer hall to open in Harlem in probably over a century so has been very popular ever since.  Check out our past post for more on the opening of Harlem Tavern: LINK
