☞ SEE: Italian East Harlem Circa 1934

Daniel Celentano's Festival painting, circa 1934, shows Italian Harlem at its height. This corner of Pleasant Avenue still exist today but is far more quiet. The towering oil tanks are long gone but the block is still quite recognizable. Does anyone know where this corner is at? We will list more details later today. Click on top photo to enlarge.

The answer is in front of Our Lady of St. Carmel on 115th Street and Pleasant Avenue. Interestingly enough, the church is rendered precisely but the other buildings illustrated are basic tenements, but as one can see from the photo taken at this year's Giglio Festival, the surrounding structures are a little more dimensional.
