☞ WALK: Cotton Club Sign Goes Down
Walking by what most folks recognize as the Cotton Club for the past couple of decades, we noticed that there was a crew of men taking the distinct circular sign down from the corner of the building. The current building is actually the third and most modern incarnation of the club, which was originally located further north in central Harlem. Nevertheless, locals and tourist have recognized this Manhattanville location (that was formerly a gas station) as today's Cotton Club. With demolition work starting on some of the older buildings along Columbia's Manhattanville campus, we wonder if this is just some much needed maintenance or if the club is moving on once more. The Cotton Club is located a block west from the elevated 1 train at 125th Street. Read more about the Cotton Club in our past post: LINK. Photos by Ulysses
