☞ EAT: A New Look for Chez Lucienne?

Harlem's number one French bistro, Chez Lucienne (at Lenox and the north side of 125th Street), is apparently going through some sort of transformation. Walking by this morning, all the signage and awnings had been removed, and the doors were getting painted saffron yellow (from their original red hue). Harlem's first French restaurant has been doing brisk business the past year since its opening, so is this only a quick makeover to freshen things up? The yellow hue is quite traditional for casual french restaurants so maybe they are going for a bit more character? Anybody have any updates? The closest subway to this location is the 2,3 at Lenox and 125th Street. Photo by Ulysses. www.chezlucienne.com

  1. I know that their awning was destroyed during one of our more recent storms - so perhaps this is prompted by a new awning. At any rate, glad to see them doing well - and freshening up.

  2. Or maybe distinguish themselves from their new to be neighbor “Red Rooster”, I like this cheerful yellow, this intersection is getting very interesting with the new hotel and Whole Foods.

  3. Sounds like a good theory, Westsider. Red Roost would obliviously be red colored and the two probably don't want to compete in looks.

  4. Although I hope they re-vamp the food & service as well as the decor...

I had such high hopes for this place. However, since opening (when they served me some great food), I have had disappointment after disappointment...

Last Friday night I was served wilted salad leaves, and a lump of tuna that didn't deserve to be on a plate. With consistently poor service.

Now I appreciate that running a restaurant is really really hard... but there are some things that you need to get right... and having all the servers standing outside chatting while customers were trying to attract their attention is one of them.

  5. This place has the worst service. I have experienced reservations not being honored in favor of friends. Will never set foot in there again.
