☞ ARCHITECTURE: Victory Tabernacle Church
One of the best designed, compact churches to be found on the side streets of Harlem is right off of FDB/8th Avenue, in a landmark Strivers Row block. The Victory Tabernacle Seventh Day Christian Church at 252 West 138th Street does not have the scale of its larger brethren but it definitely shows how small spaces can be well designed and interesting. This is one of those buildings that folks could pass by without noticing but stopping and looking brings on a new appreciation. The closest train to this location is the B,C at 135th Street. Looks as though it might have begun its life as a temple. I read up on the very large Mt Olivet on Lenox and 120 thinking it might have been a bank and turns out it was a temple.
ReplyDeleteApropos of nothing--Scientologists have been recruiting in front of Fine Fare on Lenox/116th. "free 'stress tests'".
