☞ EAT: Morningside Heights' Mel's Burger Bar

We reported in April that the new Mel's Burger Bar (at Broadway and 111th) will be arriving soon and the owner of the eatery left a comment on their Harlem connection. It turns out that the proprietor of the space that took over the old Tomo sushi shop had lived on Madison and 128th Street for some time while attending Columbia. The burger bar recently revealed to the Columbia Spectator that they plan to open at the end of July, have a late closing time of 4:00 AM from Thursdays-Saturdays, carry 18 beers on tap and specialize in spiked milkshakes. Average burger prices will be from $9-$16 which probably wouldn't work if they decided to open a place in their old neighborhood above 125th Street. Well, at least it's a lot cheaper than going to 5 Napkin Burger on the Upper West Side. The closest station to this location is the 1 train at 110th Street. Read more details in the Spectator: LINK. 1. I guess it would work below 125th street, say 124th or 123rd....lol. Like 5 & Diamond which isn't doing too well with its $20 burgers - they are good though.

  4. #1 -- Do you really think the demand for "expensive" burgers is going to be exactly the same at Madison & 128th, FDB & 112th, and Broadway & 111th?

And where exactly do you get the sense that 5 & Diamond is not doing too well?
