☞ REVIVE: The New Hunter College of Social Work

The old factory building at Third Avenue, between 118th and 119th Street in East Harlem was shrouded in scaffolding and deconstructed lasted year to make way for the new $135 million Hunter College School of Social Work building. We noticed that the planned eight story brick and glass construction has recently finished its foundation and the steel beams have been slowly rising up (top photo, taken last month of Third Avenue looking north). The lower photo is the architect sketch of the final product from the side street view of 119th Street (view shown in last, more recent photo). Signs on the site have September 2011 as the finish date. On a related note, the condos seen in the background of the first photo finished up the previous year and had to make an arrangement with Hunter to convert them into (luxury?) rentals for their students when the market tanked.
