☞ REVIVE: The West 123rd Street Parking Lot

A reader informed us some time back that the block association on West 123rd Street, between ACP/7th Avenue and FDB/8th Avenue has been embattled with some new housing planned for the parking lot on the north side of the street. The lot is part of the 11-story affordable housing complex that faces the avenue at ACP (a block south from the Hotel Theresa) and the owners of the building now wants to build a similar 8-story building on the parking lot site at the residential side street. The tree lined block currently has many brownstones and having the taller building built on a rather wide parcel of land seems to have some folks all worked up. Does anyone out there have more information on what's going on with this controversy? Photo by Ulysses

  1. If anything, why not some nice new market rate condominiums? The new Aloft hotel is a block over from here, along with the A/C/B/D trains. Great location.

  2. Block associations, in Harlem as everywhere else, are basically just NIMBYs who are opposed to any change. My block association certainly is. It's a shame.

  3. The ADC is like Harlem mafia. They own the buildings and space which was picked up at a song by squeezing out the original owners.

They now own the entire 124th street block btw acp and fbd.

What the want to do to the lot is nothing. Wait until the 20 story project across the block on 124st starts.
