☞ LISTEN: Jazz Pianist Jason Moran in the News
The Wall Street Journal reports on West Harlem pianist Jason Moran and the "Genius Grant" that was recently given to the jazz artist. Apparently, the MacArthur Foundation Fellowship (the grant's official name) provides a total of $500,000 to the recipient in quarterly installments over a five year period and Mr. Moran has thus been bestowed the honor of receiving the prestigious award. The Houston native arrived to the city in 1994 to study at West Harlem's Manhattan School of Music and has been performing recently with his trio ensemble called the Bandwagon. he opened up for meshell ndgeocello this summer at le poisson rouge. she is a big fan of his. first time hearing him and he was excellent!
