☞ REMEMBER: Carolina Flower Shop Today

It's literally Harlem's oldest florist day of celebration today at 1952 ACP/7th Avenue, between 117th and 118th Street.  Carolina Flower Shop was responsible for the Gardenias in Billie Holiday's hair and has been around for 72 years!  It's been in the same family for generations and February 4th has just been declared Carolina Flower Shop Day.  So drop by to support and congratulate one of Harlem's most historic businesses!  www.CarolinaFlowershopToo.com.  Also, there's a Facebook site to help save Carolina Too Flower Shop so join in the community to help protect this Harlem classic: LINK

  1. This shop is so unprepossessing from the street I've never gone in. I should check it out. And they should do something with the front.

  2. Wonderful day for Carolina Too. I missed the Politicans (they were there at Noon) but didn't miss the party, which is still going on. The man who made the video (above) was there as were lots of Phil's musician/artist friends.

  3. It has been a very successful event. Senators, Councilwomen, all representing the City, Harlem, the State and the Senate; wow; I never found such a wonderful crowd of important Politicians in one small room; all with Proclamations to Mr Young with wonderful and full of pride words to him dclaring February 4th; Carolina Flowers Day. The place was so pleasant with beautiful flowers, excellent music that turned out to be from the owners own CD (he is a musician); delicious food by Sezz Medi in Amsterdam Avenue, another fine business in Harlem; and plenty of important business people from the community; all there to salute and support Phil Young, a tribute to Harlems' own son and his business founded in 1939 by his Grandfather Sam Young; a Landmark and a remarkable man who owns it!!!Congratulations!!!

  5. Yes, Phil actually is a drummer and his music is on the Carolina Too website! His shop was packed with familiar faces, people that he's known for years. Those of us who frequent his shop and know him personally got emails - and several of the blogs posted the video above for the Community to join in. I posted some pic's on Facebook on the page 'Support Carolina Flower Shop' in case you missed it.

  7. I was deeply saddened to hear that Carolina Too has officially closed. I tried to get flowers a month ago on a Saturday and it was closed. I asked the neighboring beauty parlor, but they didn't know anything. Finally, I tried calling this weekend, and the phone was out of service. Are they moving or shutting down for good? They have such beautiful arrangements and great prices, it would be a shame if they're closing for good!
