☞ READ: One Couple's Hunt for a Growing Family
The New York Times section on apartment hunting has another feature on a couple that settled in Harlem because of a growing family. Teddy Phillips and Paul Morejon had to have space for Mr. Phillips' mother for long visits and also the possibility of having a child in the future. Mr. Morejon is originally from Harlem but they ended up testing out places in Washington Heights but the flights of steps and lack of local shops was not a good fit for Ms. Phillips when she visited. The couple also looked at Jersey City but couldn't deal with the idea of the long commute. Eventually Manhattan was back on the horizon and they ended up with a large two bedroom condo at Ellington on the Park. At the end of the article, Mr. Morejon is quoted saying “I worked super hard to get out of Harlem and worked twice as hard to get back in.” Read more in the Times: LINK. Mr. Morejon's quote is very true. Growing up, I honestly didn't fully understand or appreciate Harlem's character, culture or charm till' i left. Will be moving back very soon!!!
ReplyDeleteKeep 'em coming! The more gay couples that move into Harlem, the faster the neighborhood improves! Welcome, welcome, welcome!
ReplyDeleteReally could not agree more I have always lived in predominantly gay neighbourhoods in NYC and find them to be well maintained, fun with lots of very cool spots to eat and hangout!! So as Bob said a hearty WELCOME to one and all!!
