☞ READ: Red Rooster News & President Obama

The New York Post further analyzes the arrival of the Red Rooster on Lenox Avenue and even provides more cultural insight than last week's New York Time's piece.  The feature compares the Rooster to the Odeon which was the transformational restaurant down in Tribeca a couple of decades ago when that part of town was in transition.  Also pointed out is that the location should not to be confused with lower FDB since Marcus Samuelsson's popular eatery is more central and that some locals in the area have not been so engaged with the new arrival: LINK.

Then there's the national news from Politico that just announced that President Obama will be arriving in Harlem to raise money for the National Democratic Committee at one notable restaurant.  The six-table, $30,800 a head dinner will be held at none other than the Red Rooster so that will surely be a historic night to look out for: LINK

  2. Wow!!! Lenox Ave and The Red Rooster are attracting the heavy hitters! I wonder if Walt Frazier, basketball hall of famer who purchased three penthouses on the corner of Lenox and 129th street, will attend the fundraiser...

  3. Are neighborhood didn't all the sudden change with opening of one restaurant. I for one am tired of all the credit this place is getting for the amazing transformation our community is undertaking. Marcus Samuelsson didn't renovate are blocks or fight to get new businesses uptown. They make it seem like Harlem was such a terrible place before Red Rooster came.

  4. I would love to attend, but at $30,800 a head, I think I will pass.

  5. There are certain milestones or boosts in Harlem’s improvement over the last decade, Red Rooster is certainly one of them, Bill Clintom setting up his office on 125th street is another. Harlem had come a long way before Red Rooster arrived on Lenox, I’m sure Marcus Samuelsson would be the first to agree.

  6. Corey,

I agree with you Marcus and his eatery are getting way too much credit; but with that said I will take the publicity as I hope it will inspire other institutions to come up town.

Can you say Apple :), Banana Republic and dare I say it Whole Foods or Trader Joe's. Ah I can dream.

  7. I think for all of the crap that Marcus took for even opening Red Rooster (pretty sure there is a thread or two on here with commentary of how it would be one huge disaster for him) there is every reason to celebrate his continued success. As always, the big test will be a year or two from now, but until then he deserves the plaudits. Of course, Marcus hasn't 'made' Harlem, but the fact is, he did take an enormous risk opening up here, one that a lot of businesses have not been willing to take. Hopefully the success and positive publicity of Red Rooster will encourage other businesses to explore the opportunities Harlem has to offer.

  8. Great News. Maybe I'll hang around outside to try and catch a glimpse of Obama.

  9. @ HarlemBBC, why not just move downtown or to the UWS if you're looking for such sterile establishments.

As for all the talk around the Rooster, I find it mediocre. Yet another restaurant that failed to meet the varied needs of its residents. I believe there is only one true vegetarian option on the menu, which is quite pathetic when you consider all the non-meat items that are otherwise listed on the menu.

What will be most interesting about this fundraiser is who from the NY delegation attends. Because as politicos will recall, all of the Harlem delegation, and I believe all of Manhattan backed our Senator, Hillary Clinton, for President in 2008. Time, as they say, heals all.

  10. If you remember, Marcus Samuelsson was invited to participate in the White House State Dinner in 2009, I think it was - so it makes sense that he would graciously entertain a fundraisers @ his new restaurant - and that the Obama Administration would accept.
As for Bill Clinton, I read somewhere today that he is not renewing his lease here - signed a 10 year lease in the financial district.

  12. Lyne,

Clinton himself is staying... it is the foundation's office that is moving downtown.

  13. Thank you, Cool Blue Reason - The info about the Foundation leaving was all over FB yesterday - but this morning after reading your post I read the NY Times article and am happy to see that he is maintaining his offices here.

  14. Jeffrey what is the sniping about? Who the heck are you to make a stupid attempt to tell me where I should or should not live?

I support many of the businesses that I like in Harlem, florist, eateries etc.

I happen to like Apple and an Apple store would add even more cache to Harlem which would bring more people Uptown which would make the businesses here even more viable and varied. If you ever did a course in demographics you would understand that. So in future before you snipe get your "facts" in order.
