☞ UPDATE: 22-Story Building at Morningside Park
A Harlem Bespoke reader had been following up on a past post that reported the activity at the 240 Manhattan Avenue lot which faces Morningside Park and discovered that the single-story retail building plans have been thrown out the window. As of last week, four brand new permits popped up on the DOB site that announced a PROPOSED 22-story building on the site pending zoning approval (all filed March 31st). Details include 79,145 square foot of residential space and 2,522 square foot for commercial retail which makes the grand total at 89,812 square foot if the cellar is included. Nothing has been approved for the large-scale development yet since everything is pending so look out for more stories on this residential tower in the future. Check out additional details on this corner lot in our past post: LINK. Above construction photos taken last month and the equipment has since vacated the site.

Awesome news if true: Harlem construction is back.
ReplyDeleteAn ugly 22 story behemoth facing Morningside Park is awesome? Not to my mind.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Ben on this one -- that corner could really use the boost. I'd much rather see building of significant size go in there than a one-story structure, which would just be absurd.
ReplyDeleteHow many stories does current zoning permit?
ReplyDeleteI agree the corner needs some love - but contextual love - not a soul-sucking monstrosity of the type that's erased so much character and spirit from much of NYC (see Upper East Side).
ReplyDeleteMore construction, more market rate apartments the better. Agree though, hopefully they will take a cue from the building going up just west of 116th & FDB and make an effort with the design.
