☞ EAT: What's Up With Pascal's Eatery?

The major deli with outdoor (and indoor) seating over at 5th Avenue has been opened and closed a couple of times and a reader wanted to know why it shut down again recently. Pascal's Eatery is located at 2 West 129th Street and had opened again in the past few months but now the establishment with the retro signage has closed its door once more.  Not too much is going on at this section of 5th Avenue and the deli was definitely wanted of the better establishments to be found in the immediate area.  Any tips out there?

  1. When we first moved to the neighborhood a few years ago Pascal's
was the only local option. As the two years passed we have much
more options and the quality of Pascal's has diminished. The staff there
were very attentive, but poorly managed by an owner who has health
issues and closes early without considering to train another staff member.
Also... The local police officers lost interest in eating there.

  2. What are the other local options for having a couple of sandwiches delivered in the middle of the day with sodas and chips at a low price and not a chain?

  3. I ran into a gentleman on the street the other day when I was standing looking in at the emptied storefront and he said that it would be open again soon...that he was trying to buy it from the previous owner. There's really not much to choose from in this section of the neighborhood; I hope it does re-open and with the same staff, maybe unlikely, but they were lovely.
