A couple of Bespoke readers have been sending in tips that a new cafe is set to open at 502 West 145th Street up in West Harlem. This new coffee joint called Sugar Cafe is located just west of Amsterdam Avenue and appears to be more of a mom and pop type of establishment but should be a welcome addition to lackluster retail scene at this section of Hamilton Heights. Does anyone have any more information on the Sugar Cafe and when it will open?
This corner spot has gone through at least 3 different iterations. Each successive reopening has been worse than the last in terms of appeal to foot traffic. I truly hope it does better this time around.

ReplyDeleteThis new incarnation is supposed to have more of a café eatery vibe as opposed to the bars/lounges that operated out of there prior. They have opened up for business with not much fanfare. There is no real grand-opening. From what I have heard they are planning improvements as they go along.They are in the process of applying for a sidewalk seating permit(which would be nice) but some issues need to be ironed out as to whether they can and the parameters.I like the low-key signage. Reminds of the old cafe largo sign. I truly wish them the best. The Bx19 bus stop there would be a gold-mine if they could play their cards right.I really wish them success.
ReplyDeleteI read a flyer a few months ago posted on their front window saying that they were going to serve wine and desserts. However, it's a bit confusing since I walked by a few weekends ago and they had a DJ blasting music inside with what looked like a stocked bar. I wouldn't hold out too much hope for this location.
ReplyDeleteJust stopped in and was greeted kinda rudely by the two guys inside. They said they would be open on Thursday. I mentioned hearing about them through Bespoke and they were clueless, haha. Not a good look.
