☞ INTRODUCING: Sakura Park 100th Anniversary
Saturday, April 14th, 11:00 AM, The First Sakura Park Festival, West 122nd Street and Riverside Drive. We just mentioned that Sakura Park was in peak bloom this past week and now the Daily News announces that there will be a special ceremony commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the West Harlem green space which will also have more cherry trees planted. The original cherry trees at Sakura Park were part of 2,000 donated by the Japanese to the city's parks in 1912 but a couple have disappeared since then. A commemorative steel plaque is also missing from the park and organizers plan to have a replica made and possibly have the festival as an annual event. Performances and speakers from the Japanese community will also be on hand next Saturday. Read more in the Daily News: LINK
