☞ DWELL: 141 West 123rd Street Brownstone
Number 141 West 123rd Street has just appeared on the market for the initial asking price of $2.2 million. The 19-foot-wide former SRO was converted into a 3-family home in the past couple of years and features a lot of dramatic original details but modern bath and kitchens.
Sometimes this combination works but most of the best selling houses uptown have more continuity within the interiors. With that said, the renovations appear to be on the higher end and the location in the proposed Mount Morris Park Historic District has a lot of architectural merit along with shops and express subway transportation nearby. There is also a half finished shell next door (up for sale) to this townhouse so the buyer would also have to be able to put up with construction activity in the future. For that ask they could have put up some crown moulding.
ReplyDeleteI've seen floors like that before, but not in Harlem. I wish more of these townhouses had really cool hardwood floors like this one.
ReplyDeleteI think it's nicely done. Can't get a great feel for the layout. Owner's duplex downstairs and two upper floor apartments? Those stairs look great, but seem to be for tenant use... Shame.

ReplyDeleteWow -- looks like a gorgeous rennovation. Best of the old with the living area, best of the new with the bathrooms. It's places like this that are making a real difference in Harlem -- I hope we get more good neighbors.
ReplyDeleteI like the original natural wood details contrasting against the white walls and especially the natural wooden mantels with mirrors.
ReplyDeleteAny opinions out there as to why having a (nicely done) modern bath and kitchen would be a draw back for someone looking to purchase a reno'd brownstone? To me that makes it the best of both worlds - beauty of the old + convenience of the new - but am I missing something? Would love some enlightenment...
