☞ REMEMBER: Strivers Row circa 1970

A photo from 1970 shows one of Harlem's most notable historic neighborhood blocks that pretty much has been preserved in time because of its landmark status.  One can see the same block today on West 138th Street at the lower photo and the buildings probably look better now then they did forty years ago.  Strivers Row is still one of most desirable addresses to on in Harlem but the surrounding avenues still have a ways to go before better retail and restaurants arrive.

  1. It's neat to see how small the trees were then! Especially when you see the towering canopy's they create today. (This from a biased and proud resident of Strivers on 139th Street.)

  2. What is up with Strivers on FDB? There is burnt out part of this historic building that has been abandoned for years? Why doesn't the city do something with the owner. And instead of oopening check cashing places, these beautiful buildings need classy wine bars or shops. Seriously. Decent retail is sorely lacking in this area.
