EAT: ANCHOR WINE BAR OPENS IN HAMILTON HEIGHTS
Anchor Wine Bar has officially opened in Hamilton Heights. We dropped by the new Italian eatery on Broadway by 143rd Street last night and had a quick bite to check things out. The decor is cool but charming with unique herringbone wood floors, white subway tiles at the bar and the requisite filament lights. A glass of prosecco for $10 was perfectly chilled and the bread was served immediately in a rustic brown paper bag hit all the right notes for an early evening rendezvous.
We could not stay long for a large course so tried out one of the trickier dishes to perfect. An octopus carpaccio was on the menu and this was something that had could really be a bad deal on opening night. Anchor bar wonderfully did not disappoint since the dish came out tender and chilled but very fresh tasting since it apparently was prepared that day. It was all pretty much the best octopus dish we have had in some time! The quality of food and the presentation here is pretty much on our Best List for 2014 at this point and we are looking forward to trying more dishes in the near future

Looks really nice. I wish them the best of luck. It will be interesting to see how well it fares, and they'll be getting my custom for sure.
ReplyDeleteI was there (at the bar) last night too, from 7 to 10. Wish I known you were there too, Ulysses! I had a great time as well as several delicious cocktails and the lamb chops.
ReplyDeleteGwin, we had another engagement at 7 so left just before! Will check out the lamb chops next time.
