REVIVE: NOT SO CONTEXTUAL AT 280 CONVENT AVENUE

We received a rendering of the glass addition for 280 Convent Avenue that was approved by the Landmarks Preservation Commission about a year ago and has neighbors pretty upset.  This landmark townhouse was gifted to City College over 30 years ago but has been abandoned for 20 years.  Since the building is on a corner lot, the 50 foot high external  glass encased stairwell at the back of the house will be visible on street level and is violation of general LPC regulations that stipulate any apparent additions need to be contextual.  Colin Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership will be moving in when all has been completed but many living in the Historic District are not so keen on the guidance being provided at this point.  There does not appear to be a petition of any sort up but a main site has been established for the issue at hand: LINK

  2. Shocking how this has been pushed through without any concern for the negative impact this structure will have on the residential neighborhood. If this "addition" is an example of and meets the approval of City College's Architecture division…we should question their qualification. Dreadful!
