EAT: BISCUITS SANDWICHES AT MORNINGSIDE

Harlem Bespoke:  We finally made it over to Morningside coffee shop which has only been open for a couple of weeks over on Lenox by 138th Street. Biscuits were touted as the specialty for the cafe but when we saw the offerings available, we thought that a more apropos name would be the biscuit shack. Giant buttermilk biscuits the size of hamburger rolls are baked daily every day and can be had with a bit of butter, jam, gravy, egg or served up as a fried chicken sandwich.

Fried chicken sandwiches are kind of thing now in the city so we ordered the Spicy Chicken & Cheese which was a feast for the eyes and belly.  The star of the show here is actually the freshly baked biscuit which is lighter and more substantial than any we have ever encountered in the city but the flavorful chicken comes a close second.  Those who want a deep fried, harder, crispy crust on their poultry might a bit disappointed but the super moist white meat inside will surely make up the different.  This is the best spot for biscuits in Harlem and a friend pointed out that the city does not really do this southern specialty very well so the new little shop could be a destination in NYC to get a proper fix with fixings.  There are over a dozen seats at Morningside and the coffee shop also serves up some good java along with a small selections of pastries.  More on Morningside can be found in our past post: LINK
