☞ WALK: West Harlem Piers
New York City's newest pier opened in late 2008. After years of planning and community involvement, the city has brought back the recreation the waterways had provided a century ago(see previous post). This pier has freshly planted landscape that includes sea grass, trees and an open lawn with views of the the George Washington bridge. A new pier used for strolling and fishing is also a main attraction along with a kayak launch pier that will offer recreational boating to New Yorkers once more. Take the 1 train to 125th street and walk 2 blocks west to the Hudson(towards the viaduct) or the BX15 across 125th Street to the last stop.
