☞ ARCHITECTURE: The Whitestone at Tiemann
The Whitestone on 45 Tiemann Place was one of the original luxury condo buildings of its day. Back then, circa 1909, the street was known as West 127th Street with the new structure called the Whitestone at no. 609 where the former house of Mayor Tiemann used to sit. The red brick facade's grand ornamentation included ornate, multi-colored terra cotta geometric motifs and is capped off with an unusual green copper cornice with rounded crenellations on the top of the building. This unique, visual landmark is easily viewed today off of the elevated 1 train station at the 125th Street stop. Read more on all things Tiemann: LINK
