☞ PROTECT: 256 West 124th Street Armory
Passing by the armory-like structure located at 256 West 124th Street, between FDB/8th Avenue and ACP/7th Avenue, we wondered what its future might entail. The handsome curve of the roof and the classical ornamentation on the windows are striking as one approaches this substantial complex, only a couple of buildings east from the corner lot where the new Aloft Hotel is currently being built. The building would actually make sense as a convention center that hosts community events during off-season. All the windows are boarded up and not much seems to have happened here over the past few years. Hopefully, the owner or a developer will approach the building as an adaptive reuse project so that its unique charms can be admired in the future years to come.
