☞ REMEMBER: Harlem Fashion Week Circa 1950
Photographer Eve Arnold's picture provides a glimpse of fashion in 1950's Harlem. The model Charlotte Stibling, whose runway name was "Fabulous," waits backstage for her cue at a fashion show which featured Harlem designers and models at the Abyssinian Baptist Church. Apparently she is one of the first women of color to put the blond look in vogue. Etta James would come out five years later with a similar aesthetic but with a more modern, short shorn look. The other blonde Eve Arnold is famous for photographing is none other than Marilyn Monroe.
