☞ ARCHITECTURE: East River Plaza Views

The Pleasant Avenue and 116th Street side isn't so bad.
An exposed garage on 117th Street with a gridded dome walkway.
At 118th Street, it's a solid dead end with some grid pattern work.
The community garden, from Pleasant Avenue, with a new wall view.
The neighbors get an exclusive backyard, inside garage vista.

  1. After speaking to some East Harlem residents, the general consensus it seems is eager anticipation of a local Costco, me included. However it is quite jarring to look along these beautiful pleasant avenue streets and see these huge walls of concrete towering over the time-honored streetscape. This reminds me that Harlem’s beautiful Architecture and streets are under threat of redevelopment. Thanks for the post.

  2. Nobody can deny the benefits of having a big box retailer in the city. Especially when one is talking about the sheer amount of jobs created for the community. In hindsight, we now know that compromising the neighborhood may not have been the best idea. As discussed in the previous post, building a mall is not the only way to secure major retailers in Manhattan.
