☞ INTRODUCING: The Museum for African Art
The newest addition to the famous Museum Mile on Fifth Avenue is coming along. A project as big as East Harlem's Museum for African Art, unveiled in 2007, takes a bit of time to put together but the financial market has not stalled what is sure to be the next great cultural center of the city. The architectural sketch shows the modern building that will add a smart, contemporary structure to this northeast corner of Central Park which was known primarily for some uninspired residential towers. The building's various proportions, geometric window base and overall light color looks like it might be one of the first decent pieces of modern architecture north of 96th. Closest subway is the 2,3 train on 110th Street. See the interior sketches at the architect's website: LINK. Top photo by Ulysses.

I was also surprised recently to see it coming along so well. Do you know when it is slated to open?
ReplyDeleteThe last bit of information about the time line is that construction is aiming to finish end of this year. Based on that, Summer 2010 should be a safe bet.
