☞ SEE: Mysterious Sawdust on West 125th

We periodically see what seems to be sand spread out on West 125th Street and Broadway but never witnessed the actual cause of it. This morning, all four corners of the Broadway and 125th Street intersection were closed off by the police and two bright orange trucks (one shown in above photo) began spraying sawdust, back and fourth along the streets. Does anyone know what this is about? Someone mentioned that these type of sawdust trucks are meant to absorb oil. Another suggestion was that it was for a film set but no film crew arrived just yet. For those new to this corner of town, the above is the landmarked 1 train station at 125th Street. No other elevated station has this arch construction to it. Photo by Ulysses.

  1. That area use be the home of those Giant Oil and Gas Storage Tanks which were torn down to make way for housing. Perhaps residual oil from those tanks are still seeping up to the streets every now and then from a leak years ago.

  2. Columbia has also started their sub-surface, sewage and electrical preparation for the Manhattanville project this past month.
