☞ BOARD: The East Harlem Trolley

Get on the Taste Trolley in El Barrio, December 15th and enjoy the big holiday tree lighting and restaurant celebration. Join the East Harlem Restaurant Association with their kick-off on 96th Street at 3:00 PM. The trolley will make continuous loops dropping off and picking up from participating restaurants such as Gran Piatto D'oro, Madison Cigar Lounge, Spaha Cafe, Ricardo's Steak House, Creole and the East Harlem Cafe, all offering a 20% discount from 3pm to 9pm. The trolley will coincide with the tree lighting at 6:00 PM on 106th street and 3rd avenue. The first couple restaurants are close to Marcus Garvey Park at 5th Avenue so the trolley can get folks to the east side and back to South Harlem in no time. The above photo shows the original trolley at about Madison and 124th Street that serviced the Mount Morris Park area circa 1930. 1. Great photo, makes me wish we could reinstate trolley cars on the major Manhattan cross streets, including 125th, 42nd and 57th streets. Trolley cars are successful in other cities and I guess l lot less expensive than the 2nd Ave. subway, so it is not such a crazy idea. Also, love the corner street lamp in the photo.

  2. I believe the city is looking into reviving the trolley in parts of Brooklyn.
Mass transit is more cost affective and a greener option for commuters.
It would be great to have the 125th Street Trolley back in action again. This would make sense since Manhattanville will become a major work destination for many in Harlem.
