☞ Architecture: The Fischer & Co. Building

When a reader mentioned yesterday that they remembered that there used to be a butcher on 2nd Avenue between 117th and 118th Street, we automatically thought of the Fischer & Co. Building on that block. The small medallion on the white terracotta gable at the roof top proudly professes "pure pork products," so maybe this is the place. As per the said reader's memory of it, there apparently was sawdust strewn on the marble floors of the interior so that folks wouldn't slip on it. Today the space serves as a dry cleaner, but it definitely would be cool as a restaurant or small market. The closest subway to this location at 2291 2nd Avenue is the 6 train at 116th Street. 1. Exeter Schools' Multipurpose Space has received its highest honor to date, receiving an Honor Award for Interior Architecture by the American Institute of Architects. We are thrilled with the news of this most prestigious honor and are humbled by the company of other designers and projects being recognized.
