☞ INTRODUCING: Harlem's New Beer Garden
One of our first ever post lamented on how historically Harlem was known for its beer gardens in the early century but it seems they no longer exist today. That is all about to change when BIER opens in early spring 2010 in South Harlem! The former space that used to house Florence's Restaurant (second photo down) on 2099 FDB/8th Avenue at the corner of West 113th Street will transform in the next month or so to a modern beer garden called BIER. All the other outer nabes seem to have a beer garden of note and Harlem has been sorely lacking for many decades. We will keep readers posted as more news comes along! Check out our first post on beer gardens in Harlem: LINK. The nearest subway to this location is the B,C at 110th or 116th Street. www.bierinternational.com

Thanks a million for this post. I am a huge fan of craft beers and have been dying for a beer bar to open in our neighborhood. At one point I even had a fantasy that I would open one even though I have zero business sense. I think it will do great business considering that Cafe Amrita gets very crowded in the evenings. South Harlem needs another easy-going spot to hang out.
ReplyDeleteAlso, thanks for doing such a great job with your blog.
Looks nice. Thought wouldn't a beer garden technically need to be outside? This looks much more like a bar with a couple tables outside.
ReplyDeleteIf it has outside seating in the back, maybe then can still call it a beer garden. Otherwise, beer hall might be the correct description.
ReplyDeleteLooks a little snooty to be a beer garden. All the spots around here are to shishi as it is. How about a normal place to relax, whats with the interior looking like a night club?
ReplyDeleteLooks sterile and not very appealing. Needs some beer hall character to balance out the modern decor. Maybe long plank tables or wood floors.
ReplyDeleteGreat to see a new place like this moving in so close by, "garden" or not.
ReplyDeleteWould be interesting when this place opens. Not really a fan of the architect's rendering but any place that sells craft beer is a big plus in my mind.
